Find your lowest and highest notes and your voice type.

Takes about 2 minutes. It uses your microphone. Your browser measures the pitch and keeps no recording.

How it works

  1. 1Press Start and allow the microphone.
  2. 2Sing a comfortable note, then slide down slowly to the lowest note you can hold, and hold it for a second.
  3. 3Do the same going up, to the highest note you can hold without straining.
  4. 4You see your range on a keyboard, in notes and octaves, with the voice type it most resembles.

Questions

What's a normal vocal range?

Most untrained adults have about one and a half to two octaves, and trained singers often have more. Your comfortable range, where your voice sounds best, is narrower than your full range.

What's my voice type?

The test compares your range with the classic ranges of bass, baritone, tenor, alto, mezzo-soprano and soprano and shows the closest. Voice type also depends on where your voice sits comfortably and on its colour, so treat it as a starting point.

Should I push for the highest note?

No. Count only notes you can hold steadily without straining. The test only counts a note held for at least 0.4 seconds, so squeaks don't count.

Is my voice recorded?

No. Your browser measures the pitch of your voice many times a second and throws the sound away. Nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded, and the microphone switches off when the test ends.
